How one local man is providing the perfect space solution for home workers

With more and more people electing to work from home these days, finding appropriate office space within their existing accommodation can often be a problem. If shoving a computer desk into the corner of the living room or decamping to the spare bedroom is the only option, the attraction of working from home can quickly wear thin. A businessman from Waringstown, however, believes he can offer the perfect solution for a home office – a log cabin in the garden.

Kieron Gaynor established his business, The Log Cabin Company Ireland, almost a year ago and has seen orders for his wooden structures rise rapidly in the last few months.

"A lot of people who either opt to work from home or set up their own business and want to run it from their home, find that space is a real problem," explains Kieron. "They need to have their own working environment but quickly realise that there just isn't enough room in the house. Building an extension is usually too expensive and time consuming, and renting an office in a commercial building defeats the purpose of working from home.  So, erecting a small wooden office in the garden complete with heating, electrics and telephone connection, provides the perfect solution. And not only are the structures incredibly cost effective, they require no planning permission and can be built in just three weeks."

Keiron went into business himself after ten years working as a sub contractor for another wooden structure company. He had know for a long time that he wanted to set up his own company and had identified home-working  as a lucrative and relatively untapped market. After enrolling on the Start a Business Programme, he eventually took the plunge last year.

"It did take me quite a long time to build up enough courage to go it alone," he says, "and now I wish I had done it years ago. It was absolutely the right move for me to make and going through the fantastic Start a Business programme made me realise that. Now I love being able to help other people to also work for themselves. We build log offices for all kinds of people setting up all kinds of businesses such as hairdressers, administrators, business consultants, chiropractors and many, many more."

Kieron sources most of his wood from sustainable forests in the Baltic regions and prides his company on being an eco-friendly operator.  As well as offices, he also builds larger log houses, gazebos, saunas, children's playhouses and stables.

"Basically, if you want a wooden structure in your garden for whatever purpose, be it work, leisure, or even to accommodate extended family members, we can build it," he says. "And if lack of space is the only thing stopping you from becoming freelance, working from home or setting up your own business, well, now you have no excuse!"
