A former Secondary school teacher from Lisburn has turned her back on teaching, to follow her dream of owning her own hypnotherapy business, thanks to support from the Go For It Programme in association with Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.

This project is part-funded by Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund under the Investment for Growth & Jobs Northern Ireland (2014- 2020) Programme.

Jenny McNally from Lisburn describes how her 25-year long career as a secondary school teacher, where she specialised in English, learning support and Personal Development, developed her passion for helping people with emotional health issues.

“As a Head of Year, a strong focus of mine was improving students’ mental and emotional wellbeing and helping them through their time in school.”

“I started teaching when I was 22 and have taught in both London and Belfast during my career.  I loved teaching, but as the years went on, I realised that my true passion was in helping people, particularly with their health, happiness and wellbeing.”

After completing an intensive specialist training programme to be registered as Hypnotherapist, Jenny began trading as a Clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapist in September 2018 with the launch of her new business venture, Jenny Diane Hypnotherapy.

Based at The Complete Wellness Therapies in Lisburn City Centre, she specialises in practical and clinical strategies, based on the very latest neuroscience research, to help her clients make significant changes in their lives through focusing on ‘positive mind-set’ therapy.

“Helping others is something I have always loved doing.  I am fascinated by the power of the conscious and subconscious minds, especially with creating your own reality. The mind is so powerful when overcoming psychological obstacles.”

“I believe hypnotherapy is the best tool to help people make positive changes in their lives.  I see clients who have issues with weight, depression, stress, fears and addictions to name but a few,” she explains.

“I knew that my passion was in health and wellbeing, but beyond my qualifications and training to become a registered hypnotherapist, I didn’t know how to put it all together into a viable business. That’s where the Go For It Programme came in.

Jenny turned her vision for a business into a reality after taking part in the Go For It Programme, which is delivered free of charge by a team of experienced business mentors through Northern Ireland’s wide network of enterprise agencies. It provides expert advice and help with developing a robust business plan to help turn ideas into a commercial enterprise.

“I knew that my passion was in health and wellbeing, but beyond my qualifications and training to become a registered hypnotherapist, I didn’t know how to put it all together into a viable business.  That’s where the Go For It Programme came in.

“They helped me with everything from competitor analysis and marketing strategies to financial and progression planning. Their advice was priceless, without it, I would have really struggled to set up my business.

“There is no doubt that the early days are tough, but the work I carried out as part of the Go For It Programme gave me the confidence to keep going” commented Jenny.

Patricia McPolin, Business Advisor with Lisburn Enterprise Organisation on behalf of Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council said, “It was a pleasure to assist Jenny in the start-up stage of her business.  She has a real passion for emotional health and wellbeing and that passion for helping others really underpins her business ethos. “

“Jenny and I sat down together and planned a clear strategy for her business start-up and approach to growing her business during the first year to ensure long term stability.  We mapped out a clear business plan, detailing financial forecasts, marketing strategies and clarifying legislative issues.”

“I’m delighted to see that business is thriving for Jenny, with so many people availing of the fantastic service she is now providing in Lisburn City Centre.  With her passion for emotional health and wellbeing, her vast experience in education and her specialist qualifications, few others are as well positioned to assist people the way Jenny can.”
